Day 7

Hey guys, group 5 hereeee :)
(Tat, Elliot, Annerlisse, Colin, Connor and Emily Kerr),

Since the previous blog, quite a lot has happened. Dinner last night consisted of delicious chicken parmigiana, rice and butterscotch cake! We headed off for devotions which was lead by group 4. The kids sang a few songs to us which was a good way to end the night.

We went back to the ministry centre and prepared for Pastor Pete's haircut and shave. Out of all the 42 people, we raised an incredible $3500. The money we raised will go towards a feeding program at Trash Mountain on Sunday. Pete's "luscious" locks and beard were gone, and he now looks like a completely different man!

For last night's night activity, the groups split up. Some travelled to our destination by jeepney (a long jeep-like vehicle; a very common source of transportation in the Philippines), and others walked and caught a trike (a motorbike with an attached side carriage). We rocked up at a supermarket and each group was given 500 pesos, where we could buy snacks, drinks and all other wondrous delights. Us legendary group 5ers bought an ice-cream each, a drink each, a packet of Doritos, Oreos and MnMs. It definitely felt weird eating these sorts of foods because we haven't had much of it since being in Australia.

Those who travelled to the supermarket by jeepney, walked back to Jolibee (a bad fast food place) and caught a trike, and vice versa. So everyone really did get the best of both worlds ;)

Debrief was led by Nic Butson which was very inspirational. He spoke about his life, and about loving God and loving people. It gave everyone a lot to think about.

Woke up at 7 this morning, and started the day off with an entire group construction session. However, groups 2, 3 and 5 left early to go on a feeding program to Tent City. It was boiling hot and many Filipino families lined up for food, balloons and pipe cleaners. It was really hard, especially for those who missed out. Seeing these conditions that these people have to live through definitely made you realise how lucky we are for the things we got.

  4. Hiya to all my fellow staff colleagues Paulie, Pete, the Boss, Andrea, Jean, Flick, Andrew and Trish and of course my friends who are sort of family; Kie, Emzy and Nicholas!!!!
I thought I'd send a hello from me this time.....:)
My thoughts turn to you all frequently and I imagine what you could be up to at that point of the day.........I know you are all up against it, (the heat, noise, lack of sleep, your own privacy, the responsibilities etc) but doing really good things with and for the kids but I miss you all too much. Please don't go away again without me... Its not much fun here without you all. Weather is crappy and the students get affected by it. It's just plain hard work to be honest.A typical 4th term!!
I love Pete's haircut and thrilled that the kids got behind you so well and raised so much money from it........you should have a haircut more often!!!!!! I also caught the snap of Paulie with a baby boy on his lap.........made me tear up. Thrilled to see Jean so happy in every pic, looks like you're having a ball!! ...and Andrew keeps commenting on all the food he's eating!! I'm serious about not leaving me behind next time!!!
Much love to you all, Bon x
p.s Flick, hope you're up and at it and fully recovering from the bugs.
p.s Andrea, your mum and I had a lovely time together, even scored a goodbye hug from Tarques!!

  8. Hi everyone, Thought I'd send you a note before you're back here. It was really fantastic to see the photo of Irene and kids in the West! We are soo PROUD of you all. everyone here got to see our school light up in bright neon when that came out. (Right next to it was an article about kids being caught for drugs. Sharp contrast!)
Glad to here everyone is fitter and now well toned:) trust everyone is in good health (Felicity?). Photos are terrific.

You are all making such a difference in so many sad lives and their lives are changed from having you cross their way. They will each benefit from the love, grace and time you are giving them!
Yep, and you will never be the same again. Jesus changes us from the inside out. How sweet it is! What an amazing lot you are!
